JoWomenomics (JW) is a Jordanian non-profit organization dedicated to fostering gender equality, creating safe, equitable work environments, and promoting women’s entrepreneurship to enhance their economic participation in Jordan’s development.
Since 2014, JW has empowered over 700 Jordanian and Syrian women across six communities with employability and entrepreneurship skills, enabling them to launch or grow businesses. Through partnerships with 30 private-sector organizations, JW provides training in business planning, financial literacy, and marketing, along with mentorship and resources to overcome barriers faced by women entrepreneurs.
To challenge gender norms, JW has engaged 4,000 community members in 52 dialogue sessions, promoting women’s economic participation. JW has also championed legal reforms, successfully amending labor laws to introduce anti-harassment measures and remove restrictions on women’s working hours and sectors.
JW’s think tank, FICRI (Feminist Integrated Center for Research and Innovation), advances evidence-based approaches to address systemic gender inequality, fostering dialogue rooted in local knowledge and history.
Maintaining a visionary feminist ethos, the Feminist Integral Center for Research and Innovation (FICRI) maintains an ethos to produce an ecosystem that is conducive to innovative policy development; inclusive to gender equality and economic empowerment. FICRI seeks to achieve the following outcomes:
JoWomenomics has developed a robust work ethics and employability training program to empower women in Jordan and prepare them for active participation in the labor market. This initiative emphasizes building professional and personal competencies, equipping women with essential skills aligned with the needs of private sector employers. The program integrates critical training on work ethics, Jordanian labor laws, and technical vocational skills, ensuring participants are workplace-ready and confident.
JoWomenomics has prioritized career counseling as a cornerstone of its efforts to enhance women's employability and economic participation in Jordan. Through tailored guidance and support, the organization has empowered women to explore career pathways aligned with their skills, interests, and the demands of the labor market. Career counseling sessions address critical topics such as self-assessment, skill development, and labor market dynamics while fostering confidence and decision-making abilities.
JoWomenomics is committed to advancing girls' education as a cornerstone for achieving gender equality and empowering future generations. By integrating feminist principles into education programs, the organization focuses on creating gender-sensitive curricula that emphasize the importance of social and economic participation. JoWomenomics has conducted training sessions for 245 girls to address the impact of GBV, focusing on building resilience and providing psychological support.
JoWomenomics has established a dynamic entrepreneurship support program aimed at empowering women to develop, launch, and sustain their own businesses, fostering economic independence and innovation. The program integrates comprehensive entrepreneurship training, including financial literacy, business development, and leadership skills, tailored to meet the unique needs of women in various sectors. Through partnerships with organizations such as Plan International and private sector stakeholders, JoWomenomics has supported over 200 women in regions like Amman and Irbid, evaluating nearly 2,000 business concept notes over a two-year period. From these evaluations, 48 business ideas received entrepreneurship training, with 26 startups in sectors such as education, green technologies, and IT being awarded need-based grants to enhance their operations.
Riham Riad Al-Adwan, a 19-year old girl from Southern Shouneh is the eldest of 5 children wit aspirations of becoming a fashion designer. As a result of our"Work Ethics and Employability Skills" training program, she was able to effectively organize her time, providing financial support for her family.
Minister of Labour Nadia Rawabdeh said that support of women’s inclusion in all economic sectors is a necessity for building inclusive economies and achieving sustainable development.
JoWomenomics also launched its campaign titled “Our Awareness is Important” during the conference, aimed at spreading awareness about women’s rights in the workplace.
Dr. Mayada Abu Jaber was appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO as a regional representative for the International Prize Committee of the UNESCO Prize for Girls' and Women's Education, based on her experience in the field of girls’ and women’s education
The International Symposium on “Transforming Education for Girls and Women in the New Era; Inclusion, Equity and Quality" was held on March 28th, 2023, in Beijing, China.
Dr. Mayyada Abu Jaber, CEO, highlighted the mandate of JoWomenomics to create a feminist economy that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The chairperson of a coalition of women parliamentarians from Arab countries called for combating violence against women, MP Wafaa Bani Mustafa, to come up with a system of supporting legislation that supports the role of women in all fields.
JoWomenomics developed a comprehensive policy paper advocating for the legal recognition and institutional support of social enterprises in Jordan, emphasizing their critical role in driving social and economic transformation. The paper highlights the need for a clear legal framework to legitimize these entities, facilitate access to funding, and integrate them into national development strategies.
In collaboration with the Jordanian National Forum for Women (JNFW) the project aims to enhance feminist research methodology and approach among 24 early-stage female researchers from 12 governorates in Jordan. It also seeks to enhance the dissemination and advocacy skills of the 12 female researchers and support them in engaging with stakeholders and decision-makers.
