Discover who we are and what we do

JoWomenomics works closely with communities, families, women, and decision-makers to overcome three main barriers:

The  Cultural and Social Barrier: Cultural barriers continue to be one of the major factors that prevent women from entering the labor market. A culture of shame and norms that limit women’s responsibilities to a caregiver role force many women to stay at home.

The Human Capital Barrier: Women in Jordan are less likely than men to possess the skills and know-how necessary to enter the job market. This is due to the fact that vocational training for men far exceeds that for women, prohibiting women in governorates where jobs are mainly in the vocational sector from taking advantage of Jordan’s economic environment.
Labor Right Barrier:  Women are unaware of their rights when it comes to obtaining jobs or openings.

Our Mission Discover our vision and missions

Jowomenomics is a Jordanian non-profit that works on addressing issues related to women's economic empowerment. A major aim behind the Jowomenomics interventions is to increase female participation in the labor force by working with local communities to motivate mindset change in favor of women’s economic participation.
Today the most prominent barrier to women’s participation in the country’s economy is the cultural perceptions and subjective belief.
The interventions encourage the initiation of a mindset change by challenging subjective beliefs pertaining to culture.

Glass Doors Discover Jowomenomics Goals

While we are still concerned in removing the glass ceiling barriers that deter women from around the world from assuming managerial positions, females in the Arab region are fighting hard to pursue economic futures, leaving them stuck behind glass doors where they can see economic futures that they cannot pursue. For those who manage to shatter their glass doors, they are soon faced with a glass ceiling in institutions where they are not given the opportunity to lead.
The concept of glass doors was developed following a study conducted at the Brookings Institution by Echidna Global Scholar Mayyada Abu Jaber in 2014.
