JoWomenomics (JW), in collaboration with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), hosted a high-level discussion to present groundbreaking research on women’s participation in Jordan’s green economy. The event brought together key stakeholders from government ministries, civil society organizations, journalists, and private sector leaders to explore strategies for integrating gender equity into Jordan’s sustainability agenda.
Led by Dr. Mayyada Abu Jaber, Chairperson of JoWomenomics, the study—"Promoting Gender Inclusivity in Jordan’s Green Economy: Towards an Ecofeminist Future"—examines the challenges and opportunities for women in sustainability-driven employment. The research highlights persistent barriers, such as occupational segregation, restrictive social norms, and the lack of gender-sensitive policies, which continue to limit women’s access to green jobs, particularly in technical and managerial roles.
Distinguished guests, including Dr. Wisam Al-Bea (Regional Director, IUCN), Her Excellency Dina Al-Basheer (Parliamentarian & JW Advisory Board Member), and Her Excellency Maha Ali (Secretary General, JNCW), emphasized the importance of gender-responsive economic reforms and policy incentives to foster inclusivity in green industries. The study called for an immediate action to promote gender certification incentives, expand capacity-building programs, and increase awareness to reshape societal perceptions about women in the labor market. By prioritizing gender equity in sustainability efforts, Jordan can ensure a truly inclusive green economy that advances both environmental and social justice.
