Jordan participated as the regional representative for the UNESCO Prize for Girls' and Women's Education at the 23rd Prize Award Ceremony 2023, which was held in cooperation between UNESCO and the Chinese Government on 28 September 2023 in Beijing, China, as part of UNESCO's celebration of the International Day of the Girl. Dr. Mayada Abu Jaber was appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO as a representative of the region, based on her experience in the field of girls’ and women’s education, to be a member of the International Prize Committee since 2020.
The ceremony was opened by the First Lady of China, Professor Ping Liyuan, who gave an inspiring speech during the event and handed the award to the winners (Star Schools in Pakistan), while the Director-General of UNESCO, Ms. Audrey Azoulay, handed the award to the second place winners in the “Spring Buds” project of For the China Children and Adolescents Fund.
As part of the follow-up to the award, Dr. Mayada Abu Jaber participated as a speaker in the international symposium on girls’ and women’s education, which addressed efforts to economically empower women in Jordan. At Beijing University.
Dr. Mayada Abu Jaber said, “My appointment as a member of the international jury representing the region for this prestigious award was a great opportunity for me to showcase the achievements of Jordan and the region in ensuring gender equality for women and girls in education. It is an important global platform to express my vision in advocating for equality.” Gender equality not only in education but also in women's economic participation.”
