After a year of joint work with its partners, JoWomenomics launched the “Arrived Safely” initiative this week in a public ceremony featuring two panel discussions and the signing of an MoU with the Amman Vision Modern Transport Company.
Minister of Transport Dr. Nidal Alqatamin reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to safer, modern transport, stronger monitoring, and implementation of relevant legislation on buses and ride-sharing services by establishing a specific unit at the Land Transport Regulatory Commission that monitors harassment complaints from women. Former Minister Dr. Lina Shabib also voiced strong support as an advisory member of the Arrived Safely technical committee.
The launch was attended by UN Women Representative Nicolas Burniat and UK Ambassador to Jordan Philip Hall, as well as parliament member Dina Al Bashir and senate member Asia Yaghi, all of whom expressed support for safer commutes for women in Jordan.
Two panels, “Challenges in Public Transport” and “Toward a Safe and Fair Environment in Public Transport,” brought together government officials, security officers, regulators, civil society leaders, and practitioners to discuss challenges and solutions.
JoWomenomics Founder and CEO Dr. Mayyada Abu Jaber noted that the work will continue over the coming years, focusing on raising awareness, building capacity, and strengthening response mechanisms through modern tools and policy reforms.
